At Ian Barker Gardens, we love being excited and inspired by exquisite garden design, and Andrea Cochran’s work never fails to disappoint.
Andrea is not only an extraordinarily talented designer (based in San Francisco CA), she is also unashamedly our Design Manager, Bethany’s “design idol” – sharing very similar design aesthetics. Bethany had the privilege of hearing Andrea speak at a landscape conference in Melbourne a few years ago and came away even more inspired by Andrea’s design approach.
Andrea’s approach to the Ackley residence is one of clean, crisp detail and subtle colour schemes. Minimalistic in her planting and design, her restraint is to be admired.
On a large property we always look to create interest by building up varying levels of the garden, and we believe Andrea has done this particularly well in the pool area.
The dining is separated from the sun lounges by a few steps, giving the feeling of differing rooms. Her use of the raised retaining wall around the pool not only encloses this space but also allows the cascading water to feature and draws our eye to the natural stone.
We’re in love with the simplicity and tranquility of this garden, and we think you’ll agree that Andrea and her work is certainly one to watch.
