Each client brings their own unique goals and preferences for their garden. And, when combined with our passion for design, we’re constantly exposed to a wide range of innovative techniques, styles, and garden elements. That’s why we’re so excited to share the timeless landscape elements we can’t get enough of.
We believe in the power of creating landscapes that stand the test of time. Rather than chasing fleeting trends, our focus is on designing gardens that will flourish for years to come. Below, we’re pleased to share some of the landscape elements we’ve truly come to appreciate, which we believe will leave a lasting impact on the industry for many years.
Pools
Pools are a beloved addition to landscaping, especially when there’s enough space to create a seamless outdoor retreat. They not only provide a refreshing escape on hot days, but they also become a stunning focal point that elevates the entire backyard. A pool adds both beauty and functionality, offering a space for relaxation, recreation, and entertainment. When thoughtfully designed, it can complement the surrounding elements like lush greenery, outdoor seating areas, and lighting, turning an ordinary yard into a luxurious haven.
Vertical gardening
Vertical gardening offers a brilliant solution for maximising limited space. From pleaching trees to create height and structure, to installing lush green walls. There are numerous creative options to transform small areas into vibrant, functional outdoor spaces. Vertical gardening allows you to make the most of every square metre. Adding greenery and natural beauty without compromising space.
Pollinator gardens
A pollinator garden is thoughtfully designed to attract bees, butterflies, and birds by featuring nectar- and pollen-rich plants. The benefits of such a garden include boosting fruit and vegetable production, helping with natural pest control, supporting biodiversity, and ensuring the reproduction of flowering plants. By fostering a thriving environment for pollinators, you not only enhance your garden’s health but also contribute to the well-being of local ecosystems. We love bees (and even house hives on our office roof!), so this concept is one we love.
Interesting hardscapes
Incorporating intriguing hardscapes into gardens is essential as they add structure, visual appeal, and functionality to outdoor spaces. Hardscapes, such as pathways, patios, retaining walls, and water features, create a striking contrast to the softness of plants. This helps to define garden zones and elevate the overall design. They also enhance the flow and usability of a space, offering functional areas for relaxation, dining, or entertaining. Additionally, well-designed hardscapes can extend the lifespan of a garden, providing durability and reducing maintenance by minimising areas susceptible to erosion or wear.
Our Deepdene Forest project features a series of captivating hardscapes seamlessly flowing into one another. Highlights include a 13-metre-long bench seat clad in bluestone herringbone tiles, a serene pond, winding paved paths, and distinctive bluestone crazy paving steppers.
Sustainability and natural materials
Using natural, sustainable, or local materials in landscaping is essential for both environmental reasons and aesthetics. These materials have a smaller carbon footprint, require fewer production resources, and support local industries. Sustainable options, like appropriate plants and recycled stone, are better suited to the local climate, reducing the need for water and chemicals. Additionally, they help preserve the ecosystem and promote biodiversity. By choosing these materials, you create a more authentic, eco-friendly landscape that blends seamlessly with the environment, enhancing your outdoor space’s beauty and sustainability.
You’ll see in our Blairgowrie Hideaway project we incorporated locally sourced limestone from Peninsula Stonemasons, which beautifully complements the home. The stone not only enhances the garden’s aesthetic but also harmonises with the natural terrain and surroundings of the Mornington Peninsula.
